Cricket Spikes ' Grip For Success - 09/07/2010If you have never played cricket before then this may be somewhat of a shock to you, but cricketers are often required to wear cricket spikescricket spikes reasonable question, but like many other sports, cricket requires the participant to wear modified footwear to help their grip and speed and cricket is no exception. As mentioned there is a need for modified footwear in sports, so let's look at a few examples just to make sure that all bases are covered. First off, you will find that there are a great many sports and physical pursuits that require the athlete to wear some sort of spike or stud. The reason behind this modification (and why it is found in cricket also) is that the spikes or studs provide the athlete with an extra bit of purchase on the playing surface. This has a number of benefits, which we will go into in a moment, however let's just quickly identify, the sports that use these spikes or studs. First off there is football and rugby where you will find that the players are all wearing studs, then comes athletics and in particular speed events where spikes are used. So as you can see there is definitely a need for them in sport and they serve the same purpose across the board, this is to provide the athlete or sportsmen/woman with extra grip and also help to cut down on injuries that could be caused during a slip. The spikes and studs help to provide a solid platform on which the player or participant can push off from, this extra grip enables them to propel themselves forward at speed.

So to the cricket spikes, it may seem from the outside that cricket is a long and quite relaxed game however nothing could be further from the truth, cricket is a very difficult game to play well as it requires enormous amounts of mental discipline. The bats-people must stay focussed for extended spells during their innings and if successful can remain in bat for many hours. The same can be said for those in the field because at any moment the ball could be hurtling their way at great speed off the middle of the batsperson's bat. The cricket spikes therefore allow the bats-people or fielder to react quickly should the need arise, there would be nothing worse than a fielder missing a catch because their shoes were lacking in cricket spikes and this caused them to slip in an attempt to catch the ball. The same applies to the batsperson who has just struck a great shot; they will want to get as many runs as possible before the fielder returns the ball to the wicket. But they will be hampered if their shoes do not have cricket spikes which will help them to stay on foot over the wicket. Now it is clear as to why cricket spikes are so important and why they should be seriously considered as part of your cricket kit should you play the sport.
