Considered to be an essential sight on a quintessential English summer's day, out on the village green, cricket is now enjoyed by players and spectators across the globe. The level at which cricket is played varies from situation from situation, often it is played as a recreational pastime, or as part of a school sports curriculum. Then of course there are professional players, but it is worthwhile to remember that their skills will have been developed and nurtured from a young age, by tutors or informal clubs, in order to achieve their current status in the world of cricket. The use of proper cricket equipment is of course important to the development of skills in the game. If a child shows aptitude they should be encouraged as much as possible. Firstly, playing sports is a form of healthy exercise, and can encourage a sense of fair play that can be of use in all sorts of situations throughout life. It can of course, with the right ability level and some nurturing, become a career. For some, teaching a child to play cricket is the continuation of a tradition. No matter what the reason for learning to play cricket, whether as an adult or as a child, it can be a highly rewarding use of your time and a thoroughly enjoyable one. If your local area does not have a cricket club, and you think there is a lot of interest in the game, you could consider setting up an informal meeting so that everyone can get to know each other and share their cricket experiences.
