The Cricket Season Is On It's Way...28/12/2009

The recent weather in the UK, with all the snow, ice and rain, has certainly meant that the ground underfoot has been muddy, to say the least! The coming Spring, whilst bringing new life to the scenery around us, will probably produce enough wet weather to ensure the footing continues to be muddy for quite a while yet. However, life must go on, and with Spring comes the start of a brand new cricket season, the much loved sport by many across the UK. From seasoned veterans to new beginners, everyone looking to play cricket in 2010 will need to ensure they have the right kit to play the game properly. Whether it's local town matches or playing on a more professional level, cricketers must have the correct protective gear and accessories to make sure they can play the game safely and properly.
There are many aspects to a full cricket outfit, some of which are decorative and some are for protection. For example, cricket helmets are available to shield the players' faces, batting pads to protect against the shins being hit by bats and balls, and batting gloves to protect the hands. These also offer extra grip for the players on the bats. To stop players from falling over in the mud, they wear cricket spikes on the bottom of their cricket shoes to give extra grip, especially in muddy conditions. Players often have spare cricket spikes, in case they need to replace the ones of their shoes at any time. Cricket spikes are made from metal, so they are extremely durable and hardwearing. Spare cricket spikes can be bought in multiple sets, so the player always has enough for what they need. Various manufacturers make cricket spikes for cricket players' shoes; Puma, Gray-Nicolls and Kookaburra, to name a few. Traditionally, cricketers play in white clothing; trousers, shirts and jumpers are the most commonly worn outfit. These are available for both adults and juniors, and it is always advisable a player has at least one spare set in case of getting dirty. The shoes they wear should match in with their outfit, so it is best to buy shoes that are fitting for the purpose. A lot of well known manufacturers such as Asics, Adidas, Slazenger and Puma make cricket shoes, so there is a wide range to choose from.
As well as cricket clothing, it is handy for players to have accessories to carry their kit around in and make life a bit easier for themselves. It is possible to get cricket bags designed for the purpose from manufacturers such as Albion, Areo, Kookaburra and Gunn & Moore, as well as additional covers for the bags. These can house the player's outfit, balls, bats and other essentials, as well as other accessories commonly bought by cricket players including hats, head bands, water bottles, socks and wrist bands. As with the start of any new year, there will be an ever evolving range of cricket clothing and equipment to choose from when the season starts. Be sure to buy everything you need, and above all else, have fun!
